Winston cigarette brand, manufactured by Japan Tobacco International became the “Tobacco Brand of the Year 2011” in Russia, confirming its status of the best-selling cigarette on the Russian cigarette market.
The “Brand of The Year” is an annual award, given to the most popular products in Russia during more than a decade. Winston becomes the winner in the cigarette category for the third time in five years, topping rivals also in 2008 and 2010.
“This is not yet another award for us – that is a demonstration of respect and trust of adult smokers towards our brand, showing that Winston plays a key role on the Russian tobacco market,” declared Dmitry Isakov, Winston brand development director at Japan Tobacco Russia.
The world-famous American brand made its first appearance in Russia almost two decades ago, and since then its popularity keeps growing. At present, Winston is the overwhelming leader of the local cigarette market, with a market share of 12%. Every minute 3000 packs of Winston cigarettes are sold across Russia.
Anticipating the consumers’ expectations, Winston regularly offers new products, updates pack design, and provides promotional offers and discounts, remaining the most creative cigarette trademark on Russian tobacco market.
The latest novelty from Winston brand was introduced this summer – Winston XStyle – featuring innovative LSS (Less Smoke Smell) technology, which contributes to the reduction in the intensity of tobacco smoke smell. These compact-size cigarettes with charcoal filters tips, are distinguished by unique, refined taste.
According to the manufacturer, Winston XStyle is the extension of the XS line, which was started last year with the launch of Winston XS. This compact size brand became a bestseller, grabbing 1.2 percent of the market less than a year after its initial introduction.
“Currently the development of premium Winston XS line, created especially for adult smokers, interested in new and chic trends, and combining innovative technology, modern design and world-famous Winston quality is one of the strategic directions of brand promotion in Russia,” mentioned Isakov.
Packs of Winston XStyle cigarettes are distinguished by round corners of the front side of the pack, three-dimensional embossment and specific punching with an image of a silver eagle. The new product is represented in two taste variations – Winston XStyle Blue and Winston XStyle Silver.
The success of Winston brand is supported by massive and attractive marketing campaigns. Besides the usual price discounts and gift offers, the company also organizes such events as the international Winston Freedom Tour. The sixth edition of the tour was completed earlier this year, and winners from 11 countries will soon travel to Miami, United States. Another famous project – Winston Global Gathering – is the largest open air electronic music fest in the world. This year the Global Gathering was held in Russia.
